20th Anniversary Edition of the International Exhibition for Equipment, Instruments and Tools for the Metalworking Industry

Metalloobrabotka is the largest in Eastern Europe and the CIS trade show of global machine tool industry and state-of-the-art metalworking technology. It brings together leading manufacturers, suppliers and dealers from around the world since 1984. Today, Metalloobrabotka ranks in the world's top ten leading machine tool trade shows. Support of Russian authorities, participation of leading industry associations and major foreign manufacturers, coverage of all sectors of metalworking and machine too building, as well as many important supporting events testify to Metalloobrabotka's high international standing.

The facilities of Expocentre Fairgrounds allow demonstrating all machinery in operation.

Country and regional pavilions are arranged by 13 foreign industry associations: VDW (Germany), SWISSMEM (Switzerland), AMT (the USA), Belorgstankinprom (Belarus), CMTBA (China), JMTBA (Japan), MIB, TIAD (Turkey), MTA (the UK), SST (Czechia), TAMI, TMBA (Taiwan (China), UCIMU (Italy). The largest country pavilions were organised by Germany and Switzerland.  

Professional visitors: 35,096 people (+8% compared to 2018)  

The official opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Vasiliy Osmakov, President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sergey Katyrin, President of the Stankoinstrument Russian Association of Machine-Tool Manufacturers Georgy Samodurov, Deputy Head of Department for Investment and Industrial Policies of the City of Moscow Anna Kuzmenko, and Director General at Expocentre AO Sergey Bednov, Secretary General at Machine Tool Manufacturers/SWISSMEM Christoph Blattler, Manager of General Affairs at VDW – the German Machine Tool Builders' Association Klaus-Peter Kuhnmunch, President at CMTBA China Machine Tool & Tool Builders' Association Mao Yufeng, Director General at Belorgstankinprom Vladimir Labkovich (Belarus), Deputy Secretary General at the MIB Association of Turkish Machine Manufacturers Artun Bolgen, Deputy Secretary General at the TIAD Machine Tools Industrialists and Businessmen Association of Turkey Samet Burcin Aydogmus, Executive Secretary General at the TMBA Taiwan Machine Tool and Accessories Builders' Association Elisa Lee, and representatives of the Association of Engineering Technology of the Czech Republic (SST), the Italian Machine Tools, Robots and Automation Manufacturers' Association (UCIMU), the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA, the UK), the Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI), the USA Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT), and the Japan Machine Tool Builders' Association (JMTBA).

Ambassador of India to the Russian Federation D. Bala Venkatesh Varma and Ambassador of Switzerland to the Russian Federation Yves Rossier visited the exhibition. They saw products of machine building companies from India and Switzerland and expressed hope that ties and cooperation with Russian companies would strengthen further. Mr. D. Bala Venkatesh Varma took part in the opening of the stand of Grover International OOO, an official representative of Indian machine building companies.  

Show Highlights

The joint stand of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) showcased the latest equipment and technologies of major Taiwanese companies. The stand also featured various events, speeches of representatives of the industry's leading companies, as well as a VR press conference. 

The Mosprom centre for support of foreign trade activities in manufacturing and agricultural industries organised a stand of Moscow machine building enterprises under the Made in Moscow brand. The stand brought together 16 leading Moscow companies to demonstrate their latest metalworking products, lasers, additive manufacturing and products and solutions for industrial automation. There were 20 technologies showcased overall. Jointly with the Moscow City Government, representatives of Moscow industrial enterprises held 110 business meetings with their potential customers, investors and technological partners.

This year Metalloobrabotka presented two new sectors:  Robotics and Industrial Automation and Welding and Related Technologies. The Additive Manufacturing. Industrial 3D Printing sector has also grown. These three showcases were a great addition to supporting events devoted to these promising trends of Russian metalworking and machine building enterprises.

The Science, Vocational Education and Production section significantly expanded. This year it presented 17 of Russia's leading universities including such well-known ones as the Bauman Moscow State Technical University and the Moscow State Technological University Stankin. They not only showed their new developments but also took part in various supporting events. Stankin premiered its design of a digital unmanned production facility, universal CNC systems AxiOMA Control and Perspektiva, as well as a 3D model of a milling and engraving machine developed by the stuff and students of the university.

The Employment Centre at Metalloobrabotka gave information about current job offers of exhibiting companies, posted CVs, and offered professional career development consultations.  The centre was ran by Expocentre AO, the Association of Recruitment Consultants and Stankoinstrument, and powered by Vybor Group.

The Expocentre for Counterfeit-Free Exhibitions project, aimed at minimizing counterfeit products showcased at exhibitions and illegal copying of new exhibited products and developments, operated online.

The Stankoinstrument Association and ITO Publishing House prepared special issues of the Metalloobrabotka newsletter (Russian only) devoted to the Russian exposition and the most important challenges facing the industry.

Supporting Events

Metalloobrabotka 2019 offered about 30 supporting events with participation of representatives of the Russian authorities, relevant ministries, large and small business, leading industry associations and research centres, and prominent experts. 

The main event was the 9th International Forum on Materials Processing Technology, Robotics and Industry 4.0, organised by the Stankoinstrument Association and Expocentre AO, supported by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, and assisted by the Moscow State Technological University Stankin and the Russian Association of Robotics (RAR).

The Moscow State Technological University Stankin and the Association of Digital Innovations in Machine Building organised the Digital Innovations in Machine Building discussion platform with support of Expocentre AO and the Stankoinstrument Association. The main topic of the event was the digital industry. The participants included First Vice Rector of Stankin Andrey Pinchuk, Deputy Head of the Moscow Regional Office of the Russian Engineering Union, Director of Department at the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yuriy Solovyov, Deputy Committee Chairman at the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Andrey Lotsmanov, Director of the Institute of Design and Technological Informatics of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Sheptunov, Deputy Director of the Department of Digital Technology of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade Ivan Kuzmenko, Vice President of InfoWatch Group Andrey Zarubin and other experts. The Association of Digital Innovations in Machine Building signed cooperation agreements with several Russian companies. The parties agreed to cooperate in the fields of technologies and digital innovations in machine building.  

The Moscow State Technological University Stankin organised events on industrial additive manufacturing.  One more important event was the International Conference on Automation and IT. Its participants included students, postgraduate students and young researchers of Stankin, Russian Technological University MIREA and the Bauman Moscow State Technical University.

The Moscow State Technological University Stankin also held the Russian Conference on Digital Economy: Technologies, Management, Human Assets.

The State Marine Technical University of St. Petersburg took an active part in the exhibition. The University's Institute of Laser and Welding Technology presented its unique innovative developments. It also took part in two supporting events: The Latest Laser Technologies for Materials Processing and The Advanced Solutions for Welding Production. 

The Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Russian Export Center AO and Expocentre AO organised the Consultation Session on Export Support for Metalworking Industry. The Russian Export Center supports many different projects. Aleksey Kuranchev, Director of Export Support in Metallurgy of the Center, told about financial and non-financial instruments of REC Group for support of export projects of metalworking enterprises. Nikolay Gusev, First Deputy Director General at Expocentre AO, emphasized the importance of exhibitions for export promotion.   

This year one of Metalloobrabotka's newcomers was Kemppi. The company organised the Kemppi Day: Industry 4.0: Transformation of Welding Production. It was devoted to the industry's global trends, welding of the future, digitalization, robotics and quality control. Kemppi also organised master classes of sculptor Yury Barsukov who showed how to create amazing metal figurines using a welding machine.    

Sandvik Coromant, which is a recognised authority on manufacturing and servicing of cutting tools and systems, showed several interesting solutions. The conference Sandvik Coromant Day was devoted to new tooling solutions of Sandvik Coromant, factors that increase the productivity of end milling machines, online applications, digital revolution 4.0, and the latest solutions and technology of Sandvik Coromant for industrial enterprises.
