METALLOOBRABOTKA-TECHNOFORUM’2009 INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION

01 / 07 / 2009

25-29 May 2009, Expocentre successfully staged one of its major industrial projects – the International Specialized Exhibition for Modern Materials Processing Technologies, Intelligent Machine Tools, Equipment and Instruments ‘Metalloobrabotka-Technoforum’2009’.

Russia’s main metalworking industry event was organized by Expocentre and the Russian Association of Machine-Tool Manufacturers ‘Stankoinstrument’, with the official support of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the European Committee for Cooperation of the Machine Tool Industries (CECIMO), under the auspices of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.and the Government of Moscow.

The exhibition was opened by Andrey Dementyev, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. In his speech he noted that a difficult economic environment made this exhibition particularly important and conveyed greetings from Igor Sechin, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.

The Metalloobrabotka-Technoforum’2009 International Exhibition was attended by Yury D. Maslyukov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Industry, and Alexander Misharin, Director of the Government Department of Industry and Infrastructure.

Metalloobrabotka-Technoforum’2009 linked two projects - Metalloobrabotka and Technoforum, before Metalloobrabotka becomes an annual event in 2010.

The exhibition hosted 522 companies from 27 countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the UK, Germany, Denmark, India, Spain, Italy, China, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Belarus, Russia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, the USA, Taiwan, Turkey, the Ukraine, France, Czechia, Switzerland, Japan.

Professionals showed great interest in expositions organized by such national industry associations as AFM (Spain), CCPIT (China), SWISSMEM (Switzerland), SST (Czechia), TAMI (Taiwan), VDW (Germany), BELORGSTANKINPROM (Republic of Belarus). Machinery and equipment were showcased by world-leading machine-builders: Amada, Balluff, Galika, Gertner, Grob-Werke, DMG, Man Ferrostaal, Mori Seiki, Mueller Machines, Reishauer, Skoda, Trumpf, Toshulin, Willemin Macodel and others.

Russia was represented by 285 leading machine-builders, including OAO Ivanovo Heavy Machine Tool Plant, OAO Krasny Proletariy, OAO Ryazan Machine Building Plant, OAO SASTA, OAO Savyolovo Machine-Building Plant, ZAO Sedin, Krasnodar Machine-Tool Plant, ZAO Stan-Samara, OAO Sterlitamak Machine-Tool Plant and a number of other large Russian machine-tool enterprises.

The net exhibition space made up over 16,500 sq. m. Within five days the exhibition was attended by 17,000 professionals. Russian machine tool manufacturers such as VNIInstrument, HK Instrumentalnye Zavody (Machine Tool Making Plants), OAO Tomsky Instrument, OAO Spetsinstrument customarily took part in the exhibition in a collective display named the ‘Russian Machine Tools’.

Within two working days the International Forum ‘Modern Trends in Metal Working Technology and Machinery Design’ gave professionals an opportunity not only to view the exhibition but also to get an insight into the current Russian and international engineering industry, global industry development trends, as well as innovative material processing technologies.

The plenary session of the Forum was opened by Georgy Samodurov, President of the Russian Association of Machine-Tool Manufacturers ‘Stankoinstrument’, who spoke about the state of the metal working industry, prospects and challenges for its development. He highlighted difficulties imposed by the economic crisis, as well as new opportunities which it opened to the Russian metal workers. He noted that a downturn in the effectiveness of the primary industry was urging the development of the secondary industry, encouraging a greater use of innovations and manufacture of new products.

Nikolai Panichev, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of OAO Holding Company Stankoinstrument, proposed a project on the technological modernization of Russia’s defense industry machine building enterprises, designed by OAO Holding Company Stankoinstrument.

The plenary session featured reports of the representatives of the German Machine Tool Builders’ Association (VDW) and the Swiss Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Industries (Swissmem). The German innovative machine building technology based on resource-efficient equipment was presented by the Vice-President of the Engineering Competence Center from Chemnitz (Saxony).

Ivan Bazhenov, Director of the Russian representative office of the UK’s Manufacturing Technology Association (MTA), delivered a report on achievements of the UK in design and application of the newest metal working technologies.

The Forum hosted meetings featuring the following thematic sections: ‘Nanotechnologies in Metal Working Industry. Measuring Systems. Machine Tools’, and ‘Design of Innovative Metal Forming and Foundry Machinery’; alongside ran sessions ‘Automated Manufacturing’ and ‘Innovative Metal Working Technologies Based On High-Performance Equipment. Modern Technical Solutions for Machine Structures. Control and Drive Systems. Promising Components and Materials’.

Implementing agreements with technical colleges to jointly search for the solution to scientific challenges facing the Russian industry, the Russian Association Stankoinstrument and Expocentre, with the assistance of the Association of Technical Universities had organized a dedicated section ‘Science, Professional Education and Production’.

The participants in the section were 17 dedicated higher educational institutions and technological centres of Russia, such as MGTU Stankin (Moscow State Engineering University Stankin), MGTU MAMI (Moscow State Technical University MAMI), RGTU MATI (Moscow State University of Aviation Technology), Tomsk Polytechnic University, St. Petersburg State Engineering Institute, the North-West Technological Metal Working Centre.

The exhibition stands hosted meetings with the leadership of major companies and enterprises. Senior students of technical universities attended the exhibition and took part in the International Forum to deepen their professional knowledge.

A new project on the programme of the exhibition was the Subcontract Exchange, organized by Expocentre in cooperation with the Inter-Regional Centre of Industrial Subcontracting and Partnership, with the assistance of the Department of Support and Development of Small Business of the Government of Moscow.

The Subcontract Exchange featured meetings of representatives of 12 major Russian buyers with 175 suppliers from 28 regions of Russia, from Belarus and Ukraine to make long-term contracts for the following products and technology: machinery component parts, casting, metal working, stamping, metal fabrication, mechanical rubber goods and plastic products. The volume of orders at the Subcontract Exchange totaled 470 million roubles.

The Subcontract Exchange also incorporated the participant’s presentations staged at the Presentation Area, a round table on the development of subcontracting and a conference of the leadership and specialist of the regional subcontracting centres.

The machine building and machine tool sectors are the core of the engineering industry, and Metalloobrabotka-Technoforum’2009 has contributed a lot to its development. Providing an opportunity to showcase the newest achievements, to exchange information and professional networking, the exhibition has created a platform for modernization of the Russian enterprises. The series of engineering exhibitions will be proceeded by Metalloobrabotka’2010 that will run at Expocentre Fairgrounds between May 24 and 28, 2010.
