23 / 05 / 2016

The official opening of the 17th International Exhibition for Equipment, Instruments and Tools for the Metalworking Industry Metalloobrabotka 2016 took place at Expocentre Fairgrounds. Metalloobrabotka hits the world top ten trade shows.

Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov made his speech at the opening ceremony and said that Metalloobrabotka was “the main event for the machine tool industry, which fully mirrors key global trends in the industry development.” This year, he continued, Metalloobrabotka brought together over 900 exhibitors from 33 countries.

“Such a keen interest in the trade show testifies not only to the increasing demand of machine tool products in the Russian market but also to the development of the industry investment potential in Russia. Even despite the economic lag, our machine tool industry enjoys qualitative and quantitative growth. Last year the production of cutting machines increased by almost 20%. Moreover, the production structure is changing and the output of high tech equipment is growing. Last years the CNC machine sector increased by 60%. The industry is updated and the show attendees can see it for themselves”, said the Minister.

He expressed conviction that “Metalloobrabotka and its wide event program demonstrate accomplishments of the Russian machine tool industry and promote further development of beneficial cooperation between Russian and foreign manufacturers. The event will allow determining new growing points and establishing the basis for strengthening the cooperation.”

“The trade show which we open today is the largest innovation project in Russia and the CIS”, noted President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sergey Katyrin. He stated with satisfaction that 500 out of 950 Metalloobrabotka 2016 exhibitors were Russian companies and their number increased by 100 compared to the previous year. “Almost all our partners, who participated in the trade show for decades, take part in Metalloobrabotka 2016. It means the project will develop in the future.

According to President of the Stankoinstrument Russian Association of Machine-Tool Manufacturers Georgy Samodurov, “the global machine tool community has proved to be wiser than political solutions in terms of sanctions and restrictions”. He pointed out that the Metalloobrabotka 2016 participants were large national associations, global machine tool majors, and leading Russian enterprises. “The equipment which is showcased at the trade show today is made with due regard to the latest engineering solutions having no equivalents in some major powers. Nowadays, the global brands are interested in creating joint ventures with many Russian manufacturers of metalworking equipment”, said the Association President.

General Director of Expocentre AO Sergey Bednov emphasized a wide range of the Metalloobrabotka exhibits and an extensive event program. He said that Metalloobrabotka was not only a show but a place where people made contacts. To make this process easier, the organisers arranged the Interregional Subcontracting Exchange. The Expocentre for Counterfeit-Free Exhibitions project is carried out again. The program also features other important events. The head of Expocentre says that a great advantage of the Metalloobrabotka show is the infrastructure of the fairgrounds which allows demonstrating any energy-intensive and large-sized equipment in operation. Metalloobrabotka is often compared to a machine building factory where thousands of machines operate simultaneously.

The participants in the opening ceremony were Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Industry Sergey Sobko, temporary acting Governor of the Ulyanovsk Region Sergey Morozov, State Secretary, Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia Alexander Torshin, and Rector of Moscow State University of Technology “STANKIN” Sergey Grigoriev.
