Metalloobrabotka 2018 brought a major Czech company back to the Russian market

Expocentre’s international trade shows offer unique opportunities to their participants to develop and in some cases revive their business after a crisis, which can happen to even globally known companies. The Prague Telegraph newspaper tells us about one of such cases.

According to the newspaper, one of the leading European manufacturer of turning and milling machines, machining centres and technical solutions – Kovosvit MAS – is returning to the Russian market. At this May’s edition of Metalloobrabotka at Expocentre Fairgrounds, the company signed several major contracts to supply Russian partners with its products.

Here is the backstory: in 2012 MTE Group created a joint venture MTE Kovosvit MAS which then became a backbone of a regional cluster of machine building technologies in the Russian Rostov region. In 2014 a machine tool assembly line worth 2.3 billion rubles and with a capacity for 340 machines a year was opened in Azov. However, in 2015 it became known about grave financial problems of the Czech company.

The subsequent change of the owner had a negative effect on the Russian-Czech joint venture. After another change, Kovosvit MAS had to re-establish all its contacts in the Russian market. Participation in Metalloobrabotka 2018 helped to do it.

CEO of Kovosvit MAS Libor Kuchaø said to the Prague Telegraph, “During the show we had talks with more than 30 potential partners. We signed a contract with Galika and several other contacts for delivery of Masturn and MCV machine tools. The Russian market is one of the most promising ones. We expect that the revenues of Kovosvit MAS in 2018 will be 70 million CZK. Right now we already have contracts for 61 million CZK.”
