Press Release Metalloobrabotka’2013 International Specialized Exhibition
The 14th edition of the Metalloobrabotka International Specialized Exhibition for Equipment, Instruments and Tools for the Metalworking Industry has once again become a key event for the machine-tool building and metalworking industries. The show ran from May 27 to 31, 2013 in Moscow’s Expocentre Fairgrounds.
The event is organized by Expocentre ZAO in partnership with the Stankoinstrument Russian Association of Machine-Tool Manufacturers. It is supported by the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, Russian Engineering Union; runs under the auspices of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Moscow City Government.
Metalloobrabotka is in the top five of European metalworking events. Its growing importance for development of the Russian machine-tool building enterprises was highlighted in welcome addresses of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Chairwoman of the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko, Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Sergey Naryshkin, Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, and President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sergey Katyrin.
This year the exhibition has reached record figures with 38,856 sq m net, which is 13% growth in comparison to last year, 1,146 exhibitors from 40 countries, and 50,040 professional visitors (data of the independent event audit).
National expositions of Belarus, China, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Taiwan were supported by their national industry associations.
The showcased products covered all branches of machine building and metalworking, from high-performance equipment, tools and fittings to the latest materials, information technologies and software. The facilities of Expocentre Fairgrounds allowed demonstrating powerful and bulky exhibits in action, which was very important for professional visitors.
The organizers paid special attention to issues of vocational education and training of highly qualified professionals for metalworking enterprises. At Science, Vocational Education and Production Section, 17 leading universities, colleges and regional technical centres showcased their training and retraining programmes for engineers, and discussed problems of equipping training centres and integration of training and manufacture.
Metalloobrabotka’2013introduced a new project – Expocentre for Counterfeit-Free Exhibitions – aimed to reduce the number of counterfeit products demonstrated at exhibitions.
Accompanying events, which included various conferences, round tables and seminars, were devoted to key issues of the industry development.
During the exhibition Aleksandr Torshin, the First Deputy of the Chairwoman of the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, held a meeting with presidents of international and national industry associations of Belarus, China, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Turkey and USA.
The main discussion topics included various issues of development of machine and tool building in Russia using international cooperation, attracting investments and launching joint production.
The programme of events included the Conference on Innovative Developments of Russian Machine Tool Builders in the Field of Materials Processing.
President of the Stankoinstrument Association Georgiy Samodurov talked about the present state and prospects of the Russian machine building. He remarked that the industry had not recovered after the 2008 crisis. It is expected that it will reach the pre-crisis figures only in 2013-2014. Nevertheless, the industry still has a huge export potential as 48% of Russian-made metalworking products are exported.
The 2nd Russian Industrial Forum ‘Metalloobrabotka: Strategy 2013-2015’ welcomed over 150 CEOs of metalworking enterprises from 48 Russian cities and other countries.
According to Chairman of the Committee on Development of Engineering in Machine-Tool Manufacture of the Russian Engineering Union Vladimir Smetana, the last 15 years saw a growth in demand for manufacturing machinery and engineering services (5-10% a year). He observed that over 80% of machinery in Russia was older than 20 years and needed to be replaced.
The newcomer of Metalloobrabotka’2013 was the merged company DMG / MORI SEIKI Russia. Its stand occupied over 750 sq m to demonstrate hi-tech and innovative products which offer solutions to tasks of any degree of complexity.
DMG / MORI SEIKI held a series of exclusive seminars where Russian specialists learned about the latest developments and trends of the global machine building, and consult with technical experts.
The most memorable event, which generated great interest among both exhibitors and visitors, was the World Chess Blitz Championship among Robots ’2013. On the first day ten kids aged 6-10 competed with a robotic manipulator. Winners received cups, diplomas and toy robots. All participants had tasty gifts from the championship’s sponsor.
On the last day of the championship the robot faced the young Russian Grand Master Daniil Dubov. The game was decided in the robot’s favor, 8.5 vs. 3.5, which is not that bad for a human intellect.
The Metalloobrabotka’2013 International Exhibition has become a significant event for the Russian machine building industry. It greatly contributed to promotion of the latest technological developments and equipment necessary for modernization of the domestic industry.
The next edition of the exhibition – Metalloobrabotka’2014 – will run at Expocentre Fairgrounds in Moscow from June 16 to 20, 2014.
